Easter Saturday special service (doesn't fit any of our normal categories) - please reflect, consider helping, and come on Sunday 27 January to complete the planning (just after the Scream Service, so around 16:00)
Easter Saturday moot rhythm of life service, St Paul’s Cathedral
Key themes:
- Easter Saturday on the cusp of the year, between past and future
- both / and; virtual and intentional, present and dispersed
- rejoice in the past year, and those who have shared in playing the rhythm, whether together or apart
- confession and repentance for those areas where we have failed to play the rhythm, individually and as a community
- blessing of the new moot ikon
- affirmation of the rhythm, and aspiration to live it more fully in the year ahead
Messages
- has to be manageable
- short time (maximum 60 minutes), short set-up time
- artistically creative, theologically considered, grounded in our reality
Proposed shape of service
Entry, procession
Recognition of the presence of the triune God
Celebration of the rol, and of all who have played it this past year
Audit of our own practices in the past year
Confession of shortcomings, prayers of repentance, absolution
Blessing of the new moot ikon
Affirmation of the rol, aspiration to live it, prayers of intercession
Readings, homily, peace
Eucharistic prayer
Post-communion prayers
Open questions
? How to express the celebration to include those present regularly, those dispersed but gathered for this event, and those still away
? How to embody the audit and confession, linked to the rol – dots on paper? notes? gathered into one place (or into baskets) and placed on the altar?
? How to respond to the blessed ikon – veneration? salutation?
? How to embody the aspiration to play the rhythm more truly in the coming year – hand-prints on a sheet in front of the ikon that then becomes the altar-cloth for the Eucharist?
? How to capture the aspiration in the prayers of intercession – six-fold prayers around the rol? voices from moot’s diaspora, partners (e.g. in dekhomai), hosts in StMW, present community?
