Welcome! Wikis are websites that everyone can build together. It's easy!

café church project october 2007

The moot community hope to host a cafe space later in the year. This page is here to help us figure out how we might approach it and organise and think out cafe related stuff...

The basic idea is that we take over a space, such as an empty shop unit, for a short space of time. In that time it will become a drop-in cafe, events will happen, coffee will be slurped, there'll be art on the walls, a musician playing in the corner, live poetry... who knows? The sky's the limit.

It will be an everyday place where God is somehow present.

The table below is based on a discussion which Andrew and Mike had on 1 February 2007. It's a starting point. What becomes immediately obvious is that we'll need to draw on a whole range of skills to pull it off - hopefully something that will also have the side effect of helping us develop as a community.

The boundaries of the parish can be found here at this website. Whatever we choose to do must fall within that area so that we do not encroach on other parishes (the political repercussions of setting up in the wrong parish are more than you could begin to imagine....) Attached to the bottom of the page is a document containing potential venue locations bsed on a walk throughout the parish.

Thanks for adding the map link MIke - hadn't appreciated how tight a space we have to work within! This could be helpful as it immediately limits the possible locations to perhaps:

1. The lane off Victoria Street onto Great Peter Street
2. Somewhere along Horseferry Road
3. St James Tube area

Hi Guys

Is there any way we can hurry along with finding a venue? Andy? Andrew? I'd like it if we could have something to show at the next leading group meeting which is now a week away, and we can't really get started until we have that sorted.

I'm meeting Trine this afternoon to talk about the catering side.

Myself, Andy and Andrew will be meeting over the next couple of weeks to talk about venue and dates.

If we are to nail down a venue now, it may not be available by the time we get to October as the landlord could easily rent it out in the intervening months. We are going to have to learn to work at fairly short notice. However once we work out timing of publicity and the like, we are more likely to be in a position to build a programme. This is the disadvantage of temporary spaces - there will be issues with booking people in advance - we are at the mercy of the landlord pulling the rug out from under our feet at short notice.

This will be the subject of the next meeting.

It would be good to establish some dates. For example Pad - performer/poet from NI is keen to contribute to poetry cabaret. I would be happy to sort the cabaret/performance stuff out. I think there should be someone overseeing the whole programme in the place - happy to do that. Also, to give the heads up - in terms of my time - I see that I will be around it a lot for the time it is open.... as I am around a lot during the day.

Suggestion would be that it opens late morning til around 8/9 if we are going to do it in the parish area of STMW. Cabarets would need to go on later.

I suggest the following for possible acts - Sarah DN, John Hayns, Steve Lawson, Padraig, for starters..... The other thought I had - is that we could offer things like free drawing classes etc for local kids .... something like that also....

Just opening thoughts
